Account & Security

How do I create an account?
Download the Trail Talk app from the App Store or Google Play. Tap "Sign Up" and enter your email, username, and password. You'll receive a verification email to complete your registration.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password?" Enter your email address and we'll send you instructions to reset your password.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.
How do I make my account private?
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → toggle "Private Account" on. When your account is private, only approved followers can see your posts. New followers must send a follow request that you can accept or reject.

Creating Posts

How do I create a post?
Tap the + button at the bottom of the screen. Add your text, photos, or videos. You can add up to 10 photos or 1 video per post. Add hashtags to make your post discoverable and tag your location if desired. Tap "Post" when ready.
Can I edit or delete my posts?
Yes! Tap the three dots (···) on your post and select "Edit" to modify the text or "Delete" to remove it entirely. You cannot edit photos/videos after posting, but you can delete and repost.
How do hashtags work?
Hashtags (#) make your posts discoverable. Add relevant hashtags like #hunting, #fishing, #camping to reach people interested in those topics. You can search for hashtags to find related content. Click on any hashtag to see all posts with that tag.
How do I mention someone in a post?
Type @ followed by their username (e.g., @johndoe). Mentioned users will receive a notification. You can only mention users who have tagging enabled in their settings.

Groups & Communities

What are Groups?
Groups are communities within Trail Talk where members can share posts, organize events, and connect with people who share specific interests or locations. Groups can be public (anyone can join) or private (requires approval).
How do I create a Group?
Go to the Community tab, tap "Create Group", add a name, description, and cover photo. Choose whether it's public or private, add relevant tags, and tap "Create".
How do I join a Group?
Browse groups in the Community tab or search for specific groups. Tap "Join" - public groups let you join immediately, private groups require approval from the group admin.

Contests & Challenges

How do Contests work?
Contests are challenges where users compete by posting content with a specific hashtag. Winners are typically determined by most likes. Check the Contests section in your Profile tab to see active contests.
How do I enter a Contest?
Open the contest details and tap "Enter Contest". Create a post that includes the contest's required hashtag. Your post will automatically be added to the contest entries.
How are winners selected?
Most contests select winners based on the post with the most likes within the contest period. Some contests may use different criteria - check the contest rules for details.

Privacy Settings

Who can see my posts?
If your account is public, anyone can see your posts. If your account is private, only approved followers can see your posts. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Private Account.
How do I block someone?
Go to their profile, tap the three dots (···), and select "Block User". Blocked users cannot see your posts, send you messages, or interact with your content. You can unblock users anytime in Settings → Blocked Users.
Can I control who mentions me?
Yes! Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Allow Tagging. Toggle this off to prevent others from mentioning you in posts and comments.

Notifications

How do I manage notifications?
Go to Settings → Notifications. You can enable/disable notifications for likes, comments, follows, messages, mentions, and more. Choose whether you want push notifications, in-app notifications, or both.
Why am I not getting notifications?
Check: (1) Notifications are enabled in app Settings, (2) Notifications are allowed in your device Settings for Trail Talk, (3) You're connected to the internet. If issues persist, try logging out and back in.

Reporting & Safety

How do I report inappropriate content?
Tap the three dots (···) on any post or comment and select "Report". Choose the reason (spam, harassment, inappropriate content, etc.) and submit. Our team reviews all reports and takes appropriate action.
What happens when I report someone?
Your report is confidential - the person won't know you reported them. Our moderation team reviews the report and may remove content, warn the user, or suspend their account based on our Community Guidelines.
What content is not allowed on Trail Talk?
See our Community Guidelines for a full list. Generally: no hate speech, harassment, spam, illegal activities, graphic violence, or sexually explicit content. Violations may result in content removal or account suspension.
